8 countries, 8 episodes, 8 Buck-its, 1 Europe
THE BUCKET TRIP
Europe contains of more and more countries, which means even more dreams and visions. A future for us without Europe is unthinkable. We get attached to the idea that we are European. But who is this European? And what makes this European a happy man or woman? The borders are open and people can go from country to country. Five adventurous students are going to make use of this.” We are going to make a road trip throughout Europe. We are going to create a web show, called The Bucket Trip, about happiness and dreams of the European people. The show exists of 8 episodes and in every episode we’re in a different city, carrying out a different ‘Buck-it’ with a different European. In the Bucket Trip, the viewer is taken into the road trip through Europe. The aim of the trip is for the viewer to get a clearer view of the people in Europe and to make them aware of the fact that we are all Europeans. The base, the starting point, of the get-together with the European is ‘happiness’. From this perspective the viewer is getting to know the European. Typical ‘The Bucket Trip’ There are two elements typical for our show: ‘the bucket list’ and couchsurfing. The bucket list is a metaphor for happiness. This leads to more stories, that normally won’t be told as quickly, because this goal a person has listed on his bucket list mostly has got a deeper meaning and reason.
By asking about the bucket list of the local person, the question about happiness is asked to that person in an accessible and easy way. When people feel more at ease by inviting us in their homes (couchsurfing), they will most possibly be more open during dialogues about what makes them happy. This way the viewer will get, in a personal way, a view in the life of the European. Personal stories and attitudes about the culture where this person lives in will be discussed. The culture will be told from the core, which makes the story more genuine and more credible.
